4th of July Follow Friday

Good evening zombie horde! It is time for another Follow Friday! Time for some fun this weekend, but please remember that zombies are indeed flammable, so no sparklers please.

Have an awesome weekend!

Q. ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.

True Blood is one of my favorite televsion series, and The Southern Vampire books are a total fav as well. If I actually met Bill Compton, you might have to pick me up off the floor and wipe up the drool trail. I love his character, foibles and all. Absolute hunk.

Book Blogger Hop

What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?

Answer:

The voice of the book has to grab me within the first few pages. The point of view, dialogue, and characters have to be there. The other thing that drives me crazy is when a book is marketed for a certain genre or age group and it doesn't fit within that category. Especially if a middle grade book is being marketed for a teen audience. That just does not work and that is the fastest way to find a book flying back onto the shelf.

  4. That is so, so awesome that you mentioned middle-grade books being marketed to YA. I think in small part, YA is so big right now, plenty of middle-grade authors would like to jump aboard that success train. But, interestingly I just got a pitch for a book that was total middle-grade, but the author wanted to sell it to YA because she thought that's what young adults "should" be reading - sweet, simple, pure realistic fiction stuff. The characters were in high school, but they didn't act like it: no love interests for any of them.

I must say, I've been mesmorized by this little animation on your sidebar... the red and black goth girl in the purple/black ball. I think I've watched her do her thing at least 15 times.

I always say vampires are nothing more than really good looking zombies, you know?

  7. I so agree that it's irritating when books seem to be marketed twards the wrong audience. I'm irritated when a character seems to be the wrong age. They're seniors in high school and acting like they're 12 and the book is marketed as YA. OR when the author should have aged the character three years becuase they spend all their time at clubs and bars and don't at any point seem like teenagers.
